Mario Andretti is one of just two drivers who has managed to win races in NASCAR, World Sportscar Championships, and IndyCar in addition to Formula One. In 1978 alone, Andretti drove a Lotus 79 to win six times, helping him take the Formula One title. Throughout his career, he had 109 wins on the major circuits. Just some other highlights include the Indianapolis 500, the Formula One World Championship, and the Daytona 500.
Andretti’s career spanned five decades, and he was competitive throughout all of them. In fact, Andretti earned the “Driver of the Year” title in three different decades and was named Driver of the Quarter in the 1990s. The Associated Press even named Andretti Driver of the Century in early 2000.
