Citroen AMI 6
The 1961 Citroen AMI 6 looks truly terrible. It was based on the company’s popular (if ancient) 2CV but looks like someone decided to turn a child’s piece of artwork into a vehicle. Looking at the rear, in particular, is a cringe-worthy experience with its table-top trunk lid, extremely raked window, and overhanging roof panel. Move to the front, and you will see the odd hood that has the shape you would expect from melted metal, drooping and sad.
The AMI 6 was created in response to a perceived need in the market for a vehicle that was a bit less rustic and larger than the 2CV at a similar price. Citroen responded with the AMI6, which had decent mechanical upgrades to handle the extra weight. Unfortunately, it looks like they forgot to hire a designer to upgrade the vehicle’s appearance.
